Our current exhibition is a collection of 8 screenprints which are based on collages originally made to accompany the album “Pale Ravine” (2005) by Deaf Center. The works have never been exhibited before, except for being partly used as cover art for the album itself. In 2022 we commissioned Black Ink Press to do screenprints of the pieces as a way to finally be able to exhibit them as a complete series. They are all signed and numbered (editions of 5 each) and come with a download code of the album itself.
Pale Ravine, released in 2005, was the first full-length album by Erik K Skodvin in cooperation with long-term friend Otto A Totland under the alias of Deaf Center, made during their mid 20s. The record is a collection of haunting, foggy and deeply atmospheric pieces of post-classical and ambient music mixed with field recordings. The artwork is supposed to build on the music to be further transported into a theatrical world merging nature with the surreal.
Erik K Skodvin (1979) is a Berlin based Norwegian who mainly works as a composer for film as well as a free musical improvisor and is the owner of his own record label Miasmah. Although mostly known as a musician under the aliases Svarte Greiner (& half of Deaf Center), he is educated as a graphic designer and has created the cover artwork for up to a hundred different records since the late 90s. Erik is also a vivid photographer and otherwise focuses mostly on visual and musical collages. His design, artwork and music typically aim for being highly atmospheric, surreal and on the darker side of the spectrum. The process of creating either music or visuals is seen to him as different sides of the same coin. His altering musical projects and releases are available from our shop.
Erik says he is inspired by dreams, the subconscious, surrealism,
shadows, light & darkness, moments of beauty.
