Merja Kokkonen - Drifters & Floaters
Monotypes and Monoprints 2020.
4th December, 2020 - 3rd July, 2021
As an artist my most fruitful place is the uncertain area between chaos and control. I surrender to the intuitive process that it requires, I accept the way the material world organises itself when pressed under the heavy cylinder of the etching press.
The vocabulary of the selection of works presented here consists not only of printing inks and stencils but also hair, plants and fibres. Together they form an abstract language that tells its stories as soon as the mind of the viewer begins the almost compulsory habit of giving meaning to shapes - Merja Kokkonen
About the technique:
Monotype is a single unique print that has first been painted or assembled on a plate, and then transferred to paper. Monoprint refers to a work that also includes elements of another printmaking process.
